The Bird Wing pattern starts with a Gelgit base pattern and then creates large whirls with two wavy strokes in opposite directions.

It is one of the most difficult of the common patterns to get right. A lot of the pattern’s attractiveness depends on the clarity of the core of the whirl.

Galen Berry used this attractive colour palette for the Bird Wing pattern on his website marbleart.us.

This Bird Wing is based on the Nonpareil, instead of the Gelgit pattern. It is the one I was trying to make that led to this serendipitous pattern.

Here is a variant of the bird wing pattern. it is made over a relatively coarse Gelgit, rather than over a Nonpareil. It also has smaller, more densely packed whirls.

With these parameters, the pattern doesn’t really look like a bird wing – perhaps it needs a name of its own…

This Bird Wing is also made over a Gelgit, rather than over a Nonpareil. It relies heavily for its effect on the structured initial placement of the drops of colour.
